Manuel Piñeiro, known as "Barbarroja," or "Red Beard," was a figure of great mystery for decades. As head of the Cuban Communist Party's "Americas Department," he oversaw Cuba's operations in support of liberation movements on every continent, especially in Latin America and Africa. In this work, he closely collaborated with Che Guevara on the missions to the Congo and Bolivia.
