Sade My Neighbor. Translated by Alphonso Lingis

This is not the best examination of Sade I have ever encountered; it seems to get a tad caught up in psychological analysis with all the assumptions that come with. I can't say I even agree with the main thrust of Klossowski's argument. Having said all that, this is still a delightfully enlightening read, Klossowski excels at making small but insightful points about Sade's work and demonstrate a commendable familiarity with the material he cites. Most interestingly Klossowski allows you to look at a particular text as you haven't before, showing ways of interpreting de Sade that aren't immediately obvious.

This is not an easy read, but it is an enjoyable one I would recommend to any looking for an original exploration of Marquis de Sade's thought.
