Occupy Utrecht
Minutes General Assembly Tuesday April 24
Overview
1. Court case tomorrow
2. What to do after the weekend
3. Alternative locations
4. During Queensday
5. Points of Action
1. Court case tomorrow
The court case fighting the mayors decision to remove Occupy from its current location is on Wednesday 25th of April 14.00. During the meeting everything for the defense has been prepared. Fraukje, Florian, Hans and Frederic represent Occupy Utrecht
Update: Occupy Utrecht won the case and for the moment can stay here! This is important for Utrecht, but also for the legal position of Occupy in the whole of the Netherlands.
2. After the weekend
It is decided that we will meet next Friday 27th 19.00 at Occupy Utrecht to talk about how we are going to come back after the weekend.
3.Alternative locations
Even though we are dependent on the court decision tomorrow, there were some discussions as to what different people want after the weekend notwithstanding the court case.
Amelisweerd: although many people are positive about having Occupy initiatives at Amelisweerd, there are also some troubles with this. Firstly, there are only many people at Amelisweerd in the weekend. Secondly, because it is so far from people it is doubtful whether the city council will recognize an Occupy at Amelisweerd as a manifestation. It will be easy for the city government to remove us from Amelisweerd after two months with the argument that we are wild-camping there. There is a similar problem for Occupy in a building: we are not in open space and thus it is very doubtful whether Occupy can still be called a manifestation if it is in a building. If Occupy is not recognized as a manifestation it loses the many rights it has now.
If we leave to either a building or Amelisweerd we can put up the infostand up at the Ganzenmarkt every day. Maybe we can stall it at Ubica at night. Some people doubt whether this is feasible and people have the energy and motivation to put up the stand every day. It is also not clear when Ubica has to go.
4.During Queensday
Bram would like to have an Occupy stand on the Queensdag (and night) market next Sunday 29th and Monday 30th. It will be a nice opportunity to talk to people and have the ‘weggeefwinkel’. Some people volunteer to help, but there is need for more people helping. Contact Bram if you want to help!
5.Points of Action
