Minutes of the meeting, 7-11-11, 16.00-17.00 - ENGLISH BELOW

Ingebrachte punten:

1. Evaluatie festival 5-11/evaluation festival 5-11

Het festival is door iedereen als een groot succes ervaren, vooral ook de ‘’pluriforme eenheid’ en dat OU na drie weken nog steeds groeit en zich ontwikkelt. Ook de wijze waarop degene die het initiatief hebben genomen met hun verantwoordelijkheid zijn omgegaan. Punten van aandacht:

- meer structuur en focus van de gathering/discussie
- wellicht thematisch aanpakken
- in het Engels en Nederlands (tegelijk met vertalers) of apart
- handsignalen blijven gebruiken

2. Agressie en omvang daarmee

De nacht is de ‘flip-side’ van de dag. Hoe om te gaan met agressie?

Woensdagavond staat een cursus geven ‘omgaan met geweld’ gepland.

3. Alcohol en drugs

Het is een terugkerend discussiepunt. Kort gezegd is de afspraak dat er in het puibliek niet geblowed en gedronken door occupiers. Wat andere doen hebben we niet in de hand. Wel kunnen wij diegene wijze op wat wij doen en hebben afgesproken.

4. Vancouver

Dit weekend is in Occupy Vancouver een vrouw overleden aan een overdosis. De vraag is hoe hiermee wordt omgegaan ten behoeve van de beeldvorming indien mensen ernaar vragen en er ons mee confronteren. Wordt op de volgende vergadering verder besproken.

5. Planning:

12-11: weer een soort festival (wellicht iets kleiner)
19-11: bijeenkomst/festival ook ter voorbereiding van mogelijke aanwezigheid op de Dam (Hete Herfst)
20-11 Amsterdam: manifestatie op de Dam: Hete Herfst)

Concrete punten:

- Festival za. 12-11: 2-4 discussie, 4-6: muziek; 7-9 film en discussie
Discussie rond een thema of thema’s, zowel in het Engels als het Nederlands. Bald probeert sprekers uit de universiteit te benaderen. Mogelijke thema’s: globalisering, duurzaamheid, financiële crisis, etc.

- Reizende tentoonstelling (uit Haarlem) over Colombia

- Spirituele mensen uitnodigen voor lezing/workshop

- Book/leesclubs: Bald houdt zijn leesclubbijeenkomst op de Ganzenmarkt (do 10-11, 4-6) . (Ook: kunnen ook een Occupy leesclub beginnen en bijv. Zizek lezen (Living in end Times).

- Nadenken over een eindfestival mocht het kamp moeten opbreken. Komt volgende vergadering terug.

- Permanente bewoners meer in de schijnwerpers.

- Meer gebruik van de radio: voorlezen, etc.

6. Promotie

- verspreiden posters en het maken van posters in Nederlands en Engels
- Flyers verspreiden: mensen gaan donderdag op de Uithof flyeren en elders in de stad.

1. Evaluation festival 5-11

The festival was considered a big success by all, particularly as an expression of ‘pluriform unity’ and by the fact that it shows that OU after three weeks is still growing and developing. Also the manner in which who took the initiative dealt with their responsibility was applauded by all. Points of attention:

- More structure and focus of the gathering/discussions
- Perhaps a more thematic approach to these gatherings
- In English and Dutch (separate groups or through translation)
- Use of hand signals

2. Dealing with aggression

The night is the ‘flipside’ of the day. How to deal with aggression?
Reliance of police: the phone them immediately or as measure of last resort? The danger is that the presence of the police triggers more aggression and violence, providing a reason, perhaps, to close the camp.

The idea is now to compile a list of volunteers who are willing to do night shifts guarding the camp, particularly Friday and Saturday. Michael will coordinate and compile the list and make a schedule.

Eelke will provide a course how to deal with aggression, this Wednesday-evening (9-11).

3. Alcohol and drugs

It is a recurring issue. In brief: the agreement is that there is no drinking and blowing in public by occupiers. What others do, we cannot control but we could point out to them what our agreement is.

4. Vancouver

This week-end a women died of an overdose in Occupy Vancouver. The question is how to deal with this considering the image of occupy when people ask or confront us with it. Will be an item on the next meeting.

5. Planning:
12-11: festival (perhaps smaller)
19-11: meeting/festival perhaps also in preparation for the manifestation in Amsterdam (‘Hete Herfst’/’Hot Autumn”)
20-11 Amsterdam: manifestatie op de Dam: Hete Herfst)

Suggestions:

- Festival sat. 12-11: 2-4 discussion, 4-6: music; 7-9 film and discussion
Discussion around a theme or themes, both in English and Dutch (either two separate groups or with the help of translators). Bald tries to invite speakers from within the university. Possible themes: globalization, sustainability, the crisis, etc.?

- Travelling exhibition (from Haarlem) on Colombia.

- Spiritual workshops

- Book/readingclubs: Bald will have his student readingclub held at the Ganzemarkt this Thursday 10-11, 4-6. (Perhaps we can also start a Occupy reading club, for example a reading of Zizek, ‘Living in End Times’.

- Thinking about a final festival if and when the camp is closing down. Will be on the agenda next time.

- Permanent residents more in the limelight.

- More use of the radio: reading a book, …?

6. Promotion

- Making and distributing posters, both in Dutch and English
- Flyers same: people will flyer at the Uithof this Thursday and elsewhere in the city.
